Mental Health: New Perspectives in Graphic Medicine and Life Writing
12-13 May 2026 / KU Leuven, Faculty of Arts

This symposium brings together leading scholars and practitioners to explore how comics and life writing engage with mental health and neurodivergence within graphic medicine and the health humanities. Featuring keynote lectures by Ian Williams and Helen Spandler, alongside themed panels on gender, politics, pedagogy, disability studies, and artistic practice, as well as a roundtable on graphic medicine and psychiatry, the symposium critically examines the cultural power, limits, and possibilities of comics as a medium for rethinking mental health discourse and practice.
